CORE PASSAGE: John 3:16
Jesus is revealed in the Bible as the Son of God. He was first given this title by Gabriel, who spoke to Mary, saying: “So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35).
After Jesus was baptised by John, the heavens opened, and the Spirit of God descended like a dove and settled on Him while God’s voice said, “This is my dearly beloved Son, who brings me great joy” (Matthew 3:16-17). This is a picture of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
As the Son of God, Jesus existed and was present when, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Jesus is also referred to as the Word of God (Revelation 19:13): “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone” (John 1:1-5).
Jesus always revealed God the Father to the human race. “Anyone who has seen me, has seen the Father,” Jesus told Philip (John 14:9). Jesus used His power as God’s Son to glorify God and never to fulfill His own personal desires. Jesus never used His power to amaze people or to dominate the world by force. The devil even tried to tempt Jesus, but Jesus used the Scriptures to overcome the devil.
As the Son of God, Jesus was all powerful on earth. He healed the sick, cast out demons, walked on water, calmed the sea, and had the authority to forgive sins (Mark 2:5-12).
In John 3:16, we read that “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” The Son of God is the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).
One day, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, will return (John 14:3, Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:13).
Jesus is the way to eternal life with God. Accepting Jesus as your Saviour will begin your relationship with God here on earth, as well. The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). To start this relationship with God, you need to believe in your heart and say that Jesus is your Lord.
