According to church tradition, the Apostle John moved to Ephesus in Asia Minor. From there, he was banished to the island of Patmos. This was during Roman Emperor Domitian’s reign, A.D. 81-96. On this island, he was instructed to write the Book of Revelation (Revelation 1:9-11). He also wrote the Gospel of John and the three epistles: 1 John, 2 John, and 3 John. These epistles emphasize God’s love and how we should put that love into practice.
